Busking tour aims to promote Glasgow's summer of music

The first stop of the tour took place in Aberdeen on Wednesday

A national busking tour celebrating Glasgow summer of music kicked off on Wednesday.

Local band Pages performed and were giving away free tickets to upcoming Glasgow gigs.

The tour is part of Glasgow Life’s campaign to get people excited for live music events in the city.

The tour is bringing together musicians from across the country to shine a light on Glasgow’s jam-packed programme of music events this summer.

Glasgow Life chair Bailie Annette Christie said: “Glasgow enjoys a global reputation as a live music hotspot, with our venues regularly playing host to some of the world’s biggest artists.

“As the UK’s first and Scotland’s only, UNESCO City of Music, Glasgow’s music scene has something for all fans, which is a major reason visitors choose to come here.

“The Glasgow Music Nonstop busking tour is our way of bringing a flavour of Glasgow’s summer of music to our fellow Scottish cities and celebrating the artists that make Glasgow’s music scene so vibrant.”

The tour kicked off in Aberdeen on a number of stops in various Scottish cities to promote Glasgow's world-class music scene.

The second event took place in Edinburgh on Thursday whilst Dundee residents will be able to catch the tour when it stops at the Riverside Esplanade on Friday.

Local band BOOTlace and musician Silvi will be busking from 12pm.

King Tut’s Summer Nights Festival, Piping Live! And Roxy Music at the OVO Hyrdo are amongst the events people can get tickets to.

Glasgow-based artist Riley, who performed at the Edinburgh stop on Thursday, said: “Glasgow is one of my favourite cities to play in, so I was thrilled when I was asked to join the Glasgow Music Nonstop busk tour.”
