Former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has added another name to his business empire. The Sports Direct chief - who sold Newcastle United last year - has acquired troubled fast fashion brand Missguided.
The women's clothes retailer joins the likes of House of Fraser, Game and Jack Wills in Mr Ashley's portfolio. Frasers Group, owned by Mr Ashley, confirmed it has bought Missguided and sister brand Mennace for £20m.
Michael Murray, chief executive of Frasers Group, said: “We are delighted to secure a long-term future for Missguided, which will benefit from the strength and scale of Frasers Group’s platform and our operational excellence. Missguided’s digital-first approach to the latest trends in women’s fashion will bring additional expertise to the wider Frasers Group.”

Frasers Group was previously known as Sports Direct International before it acquired the House of Fraser department store chain in 2018. While Mr Ashley no longer owns Newcastle United, much to the joy of most fans, he still has a huge presence in the North East, due to the brands and stores his group owns.
