The movers and shakers from Nottinghamshire’s business scene met at an exclusive breakfast networking event to celebrate the biggest companies in the county.
Businesspeople from throughout the county met at a networking breakfast hosted by the Nottingham Business School at Nottingham Trent University this morning, to hear the results from the latest Nottinghamshire Top 200 Companies list.
In association with Nottingham Business School at Nottingham Trent University and sponsored by Pattersons Commercial Law, the 2022 Nottinghamshire Live Top 200 list has been compiled using data from official register at Companies House.
Companies have been ranked according to turnover figures, and details include the number of staff they employ, in recognition of their contribution to the economy of Nottinghamshire.
Due to the pandemic this was the first time the event had been held since 2019, a fact which only increased anticipation among the delegates present.
The breakfast was hosted by former BBC presenter and current podcast host Martin Ballard, who is also the announcer at Leicester Tigers Rugby Club.
The event was introduced by Natalie Fahy, editor of the Nottingham Post and Nottinghamshire Live, who described the challenges local businesses have faced during and since the pandemic.
She said: "Lots of businesses have grown in ways they would never have expected and faced difficult decisions over where their resources should go.
"This list is a special one, in fact it's more than just a list, because we know how hard the last two years have been and what it's taken to get here."
Toasting the relationship between Nottingham Trent University and the county's business community, Nottingham Trent University vice chancellor and president Professor Edward Peck said that "supporting business and innovation goes back to our roots".
He said: "We're always working with new ideas and fresh perspectives.
"Trying to recruit people into Nottingham who are the talent of the future. We're so pleased that so many of you take students on placements, you act as mentors, you do projects for us.
"You spot the talent and then you hold it in our city and our county. It's great for us and it's great for our students.
"The success of our universities, our economy and our businesses are very closely intertwined, which is why we're very pleased to host this event."
Delegates also heard from Rik Pancholi, owner and managing director of headline sponsor Pattersons Commercial Law.
He said: "It's an honour to be here in front of you all and to honour the Top 200 companies. We're celebrating the success not only of these companies but all the companies that have contributed to the local economy.
"What you all bring to the table is hope, inspiration and aspiration.

Things then moved on to the presentation of awards in three different categories, and the announcement of the Top 20 list.
The big news is that long-running leader of the pack Books UK Limited has retained its position at the top of the list.
Employing over 43,000 workers and with a turnover of £8.68 billion - according to the figures used in the list - global pharmaceuticals and beauty giant Boots is still the undisputed champion of the Nottinghamshire economy.
Accepting the award on behalf of his company, Boots UK Limited chief HR officer Ben Horner said: "It's really humbling to be here with all these amazing companies. We've got amazing plans for our international scope but also very importantly our local scope.
"We've got a really bright future and it's incredible to be here."
Most of the Top 20 spots remain unchanged from the 2019 rankings - Experian, Wilko, Capitol One, Pendragon and Sports Direct owner Frasers Group are all firmly fixed at the top.
However there was one new entry to the Top 20 - Birmingham Highways Limited, a PFI contract project delivering and maintaining roads in Birmingham was relocated to Nottinghamshire in 2019 and has made it straight towards the top of the list.
And world-renowned table-top games and miniatures maker and seller Games Workshop - another proud Nottinghamshire company - has jumped into the Top 20 for the first time, following a sales bonanza linked with the pandemic.
Three awards were also given out this morning, in recognition of three particular achievements. These were the highest listed company - which went of course to Boots - the highest new entry (which went to Birmingham Highways Limited) and the highest climber in the 2022 ranking.
This highest climber award was scooped by Arc Property Services Partnership, a joint venture partnership between Nottinghamshire County Council and property development firm Scape, which is rolling out a number of projects on behalf of the council.
The group jumped a massive 65 places from 157th last year to 92nd this year.
