An out-of-control bushfire burning in Henderson and Wattleup in the City of Kwinana, in Perth's south, has been downgraded to a watch and act but authorities warn a possible threat to lives and homes remains as conditions are changing.
The watch and act is in place for people bounded by Wattleup Road and the intersection of Rockingham Road and Cockburn Road to the south, the coast and Cockburn Road to the west, Gemma Road and Torgoyle Road to the north and Rockingham Road and Moylan Road to the east.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) is urging people in the area to leave now if the way is clear or, if they're well prepared and plan to actively defend their homes, to make final preparations now.
So far the fire has burnt through 86 hectares but no properties have been impacted.
The blaze, which was first reported at 8.37 on Saturday morning, is stationary and contained but not controlled.
It started near the intersection of Rockingham Road and Lussky Road in Hope Valley.
More than 100 firefighters are battling the blaze and strengthening containment lines.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area with a number of roads closed including;
- Rockingham Road in both directions between Hope Valley Road and Russell Road
- Russell Road and Rockingham Road intersection (excluding eastbound traffic on Russell Road)
- Moylan Road and Wattleup Road intersection
- Hope Valley Road and Rockingham Road intersection
- Anketell Road and Rockingham Road intersection
- Cockburn Road and Stuart Drive intersection
- Cockburn Road between Russell Road and Rockingham Road
