Bus Swept Away In Kenya Flood Rescue Operation

Rescue operation after six touring skiers went missing, in Evolene

Authorities in northern Kenya are currently conducting a rescue operation following a distressing incident involving a bus that was swept away by floodwaters in a swollen river. The exact number of passengers on board remains unknown, but reports indicate that some individuals were able to escape just before the bus was submerged, while others sought refuge on the roof of the vehicle. The fate of those still trapped inside the bus is uncertain at this time.

This tragic event occurred shortly after the closure of a section of the same road due to flooding caused by the swelling of the Tana River, a consequence of heavy rains in the region. In response to the emergency, the Kenya Red Cross has mobilized its personnel and resources, dispatching two rescue boats to the scene to facilitate a prompt and efficient rescue operation.

The government had previously issued a flood alert to residents of Tana River and Lamu counties following the breach of a dam upstream, exacerbating the already precarious situation caused by the ongoing heavy rainfall. The collaborative efforts of the police, Red Cross workers, and other relevant authorities are crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of those affected by this unfortunate incident.
