Bus promoting Disney's new Sex Pistol's drama gets stuck under crossbar outside Principality Stadium

It's not the kind of anarchy punk's pioneers dreamed of, but a bus promoting the Sex Pistol's new TV drama caused a bit of bother in Cardiff city centre - after getting stuck under a crossbar outside the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

It looks as if the open top bus had attempted to drive up towards gate 3 of the stadium on Westgate Street before getting lodged against the rugby posts outside the ground. South Wales Police turned up and officers were seemingly unimpressed with the bus driver's antics -

In a tongue-in-cheek post on Twitter, South Wales Police said: "Not quite the publicity they were hoping for today. Stuck under the crossbar at the stadium this afternoon. Driver reported for driving without due care and attention. Luckily nobody injured - could have been a lot worse."

In comments under the post, one person joked "anarchy on Westgate Street", while another quipped "some Rotten driving", in reference to the group's debut single Anarchy in the UK and lead singer Johnny Rotten. A third wrote: "Something kind of ironic about this!"

The incident happened on Sunday afternoon and came hot on the heels of the launch of the six-part series Pistol about the 1970s punk band.

One of the most anticipated biopics of the year, Pistol sees the rise of punk in 1970s London. Lauded Scottish director Danny Boyle of Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire fame directed a young cast that follows the beginnings of the anarchic Sex Pistols. The drama is based on Steve Jones’ 2017 memoir Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol, and features Toby Wallace, Jacob Slater, Anson Boon, Christian Lees and Louis Partridge as the members of the raucous punk band. The story charts the band’s rise to notoriety and touches on junkie bass player Sid Vicious' volatile relationship with girlfriend Nancy Spungen, who was found dead with a single stab wound in 1978. Vicious, who was arrested on suspicion of her murder, later died of a heroin overdose weeks later while out on bail.

The official synopsis for the series reads: "The furious, raging storm at the centre of the rock and roll revolution are the Sex Pistols - and at the centre of this series is Sex Pistols’ founding member and guitarist, Steve Jones. Jones’ hilarious, emotional and at times heart-breaking journey guides us through a kaleidoscopic telling of three of the most epic, chaotic and mucus-spattered years in the history of music."

However, not everyone connected with the band is happy about the new drama - with Jonny Rotten, whose real name is John Lydon, described the drama as a "pile of nonsense" and took a swipe at his former bandmates. Lydon, 66, told the Mirror : "I supported them for years and years and years, knowing they were dead wood. None of these f***s would have a career but for me. They did nothing before, they've done nothing since."
