Photos taken in the aftermath showed the burned-out bus completely gutted by the fire.

Hackney Council said on Twitter: “All the children were evacuated with no injuries & a replacement bus was organised to deliver them to school.”

It added that the cause of the incident “is yet to be determined”, while thanking the police and fire service for their quick response.

London Fire Brigade said “a small part of several surrounding properties” were damaged, along with six other vehicles.

The brigade was called to the scene around 8.15am and the blaze was under control by 9.20am.

It received 42 calls from members of the public reporting the fire.
