A bus driver has appeared in court after a nine-year-old girl was killed in a collision with a bus last summer.

Martin Asolo-Agogua, 24, of Nunhead, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by careless driving when under the influence of drink or drugs on February 13.

He was bailed at a hearing at Bromley Magistrates Court on Tuesday and will appear at the Old Bailey on April 22.

Ada Bicakci, nine, and her five-year-old brother were hit by a bus in Watling Street near the junction with Halcot Avenue, in Bexleyheath, on Saturday, August 3.

They were with a family member at the time.

Both children were taken to hospital, but despite the efforts of medical staff, Ada died two days later.

Asolo-Agogua, who was driving the bus, was arrested on the day of the incident on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and drug-driving.

He was instructed not to drive and to remain living at his current address during the short hearing at Bromley Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

After her death, police said Ada, a Turkish-British national who lived locally and went to school in the area, was a keen gymnast and swimmer.

Her family have said that following her death, Ada's organs were donated to help six other children.
