Woman rushed to hospital after being 'trapped under bus' in Scots city centre

A bus has been involved in a crash in Glasgow city centre with emergency services working at the scene and locking down a number of nearby roads.

Emergency crews were alerted at around 2.10pm on Wednesday January 11 and raced to Stockwell Street near the Trongate.

Officers remain on the scene along with fire crews and the ambulance service.

Speaking to the Record, one eyewitness said the incident looked serious, possibly with a person trapped under the vehicle, with emergency crews blocking access to roads.

Glasgow City Council advised the following roads have been shut in the city centre: Stockwell Street between Trongate and Osbourne Street. Glassford Street between Ingram Street and Trongate, King Street and Glassford Street.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 2.10 pm on Wednesday 11 January 2023, police were called to a road incident on Trongate near to Stockwell Street involving a female pedestrian and a bus.

"Emergency services attended and the woman has been taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

"No details on her condition or injury. No one from the bus was injured.

"Trongate between Glassford Street and High Street is closed until further notice. Local diversions are in place."
