The coroner was told how the retired export clerk's death was 'likely to be trauma or trauma-related'. Speaking during the brief hearing, acting senior coroner for North West Wales, Katie Sutherland, said: "At this time the provisional cause of death is withheld, but is likely to be trauma or trauma related to some extent, making it sufficient enough to open an inquest.

"The full inquest will be adjourned pending further investigation."

The incident triggered a huge emergency response including from the Wales Air Ambulance, which landed on the Llandudno landmark at 11.12am. The Welsh Ambulance Service said they received reports of a 'medical emergency' at 10:46am.

They were joined by the coastguard, police and cliff rescue crews in a joint rescue effort which lasted around two hours. Pictures from the scene showed a large-scale rescue effort involving several emergency crews.
