Burnley suffer relegation battle blow as Everton given boost before Brentford

Burnley's survival hopes took a major hit at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Mike Jackson's side suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the hosts.

This loss leaves the Clarets level on points and games played with 18th-placed Leeds United, who are in action this afternoon against Brighton. Everton remain two points clear of Burnley, a gap that can stretched further this afternoon should the Blues get the better of Brentford at Goodison Park.

Burnley have now succumbed to back-to-back losses in the Premier League, failing to make the most of opportunities to put Leeds into an uncomfortable position.

Harry Kane scored the game's only goal in first half stoppage time, converting from the penalty spot after Antonio Conte's men were awarded somewhat of a contentious penalty for a handball. Burnley face Aston Villa away from home on Thursday night in their next match, with their final fixture of the 2021/22 season coming at home to Newcastle a week today.

Everton can move five points clear of both Burnley and Leeds - with all sides level on games after today's action - should the Toffees secure three points against Brentford later today.
