Burnley interim manager sends Everton warning after Southampton win

Burnley's caretaker manager Mike Jackson has warned his side has what it takes to survive the drop and maintain their Premier League status.

Everton are locked in a relegation fight and Burnley now sit just one point behind them in the table following their 2-0 win over Southampton on Thursday night. The Blues clinched a 1-1 draw against Leicester City earlier in the week and still have a game in hand.

The relegation fight, though, is closer than ever and things don't get any easier for Everton with a trip to Anfield on the horizon. Burnley can move ahead of them in the table with a win over Wolves on Saturday, before the Merseyside derby even kicks off the following day.

Jackson was announced caretaker manager at Turf Moor after the club announced the sacking of Sean Dyche and he's now unbeaten in his two games in charge. He believes his side will be able to secure survival in their remaining games.

He told Sky Sports after the win over Southampton: "I've said that all along [we have what it takes], because I've seen them in the last few days. How they've been and how much it's meant to them.

"If you keep seeing that, if you keep seeing that spirit. Again, they've gone and delivered that, we're just there to help them. They've just gone for it."

Of Everton's remaining fixtures, they must still play Chelsea, Leicester and Arsenal. While Burnley's only top six clash comes against Tottenham on May 15.

Jackson's side will also face Aston Villa home and away, as well as Watford and Newcastle United.
