Burnley eye Swansea City man, Stoke City to sign Reading midfielder - Championship rumours

Most Championship clubs including Bristol City return to pre-season next week with preparations for the new season turned up a notch.

Luckily for the Robins, three new players will be among the ranks which will give Nigel Pearson the perfect opportunity to introduce them to their team-mates and tactics.

Patience could be a virtue for managers across the league as they wait patiently for players to make final decisions on their futures. Pearson is still in the market for new signings but it's unlikely they'll be any new arrivals before Monday.

It's more likely City will wave goodbye to one or two players with a number of them up for grabs as the Robins look to reduce the wage bill and raise potential transfer funds.

Although it's been slightly quiet this week regarding City's transfer business, here's a rundown of the headlines across the Championship.

Burnley want Swansea defender

New Burnley boss Vincent Kompany wants to make Swansea defender Joel Latibeaudiere his first signing, according to reports.

WalesOnline say the Clarets are prepared to part with £500,000 to sign the 22-year-old. Kompany knows Latibeaudiere from the duo's time together at Manchester City.

Latibeaudiere made 29 Championship appearances for the Swans last season and has just a year left on his contract. He signed for the Welsh side in 2020 from the Premier League champions. A move to sign the player could come in the wake that Burnley's Nathan Collins is attracting interest from the Premier League.

Stoke set to sign Reading midfielder

The Potters are set to pull off the bargain arrival of Reading midfielder Josh Laurent on a free transfer, according to reports.

Journalist Mike McGrath claimed Michael O'Neill's side have won the race for the midfielder who has turned down a new deal at the Royals. Laurent has enjoyed two impressive seasons at Reading since his move from Shrewsbury in 2020.

He was Reading's Player of the Season in his debut campaign and enjoyed another positive year last time around - crucial to the club's Championship survival. The arrival could mean that Stoke's Joe Allen is set to leave on a free transfer.

Millwall emerge as favourites to sign Elliot Anderson

A whole host of Championship clubs are tracking talented Newcastle midfielder Elliot Anderson following his terrific loan spell with City's rivals Bristol Rovers last season.

Eddie Howe wants to take a look at the 19-year-old in pre-season but it's likely Anderson will be sent out on loan to gain regular first team football. He scored seven and assisted six in 21 appearances helping send Rovers into League One.

According to journalist Darren Witcoop, Millwall have emerged as favourites while Stoke and Sheffield Wednesday are also thought to be interested. Although there is likely to be plenty more sides looking into his availability.

QPR beat rivals to wanted defender

Jake Clarke-Salter is on the brink of signing for QPR after reportedly undergoing his medical with the London club today, write Football Insider.

The 24-year-old, who enjoyed a fine season on loan with Coventry last season, was available on a free transfer after leaving Chelsea upon the expiration of his contract.

He is likely to be the first signing following the appointment of Michael Beale. It means QPR have beaten Coventry, Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers. Clarke-Salter has left Stamford Bridge after 16 years with the club.
