A man who tried to break into a bakery in the middle of the night was forced to abandon his criminal attempts after finding the place full of bakers 'armed with razor-sharp baguettes'.
The bakery in Chorlton, Manchester, detailed the hapless attempt, which occurred around 4.30am on January 20, in a post to Facebook, Manchester Evening News reports.
“We really enjoyed watching an idiot carefully and quietly break open our door at 4am with a crowbar, only to sh*t his pants and run at the sight of bakers working in the bakery,” it read.
“WE ARE A 24/7 BAKERY!!!!!!! There is NEVER NOBODY AT BARBAKAN!
“We also can see you on camera right now lurking around the building… we are armed with razor sharp baguettes.”
Barbakan owner Frankie Dyer said: “At 4.30, my night shift of bakers have just finished, and my morning shift are just starting, and the drivers are in as well.
“So there were probably about 10 or 11 people in the bakery. They heard some banging and they ran to the door, and it had been opened.
“We got the CCTV footage, and it showed a man very quietly and carefully spending a lot of time trying to open the door.
“He finally creaks it open, sees everyone, and literally darts in the opposite direction.
“You’d think he’d been able to hear everyone. The drivers are coming in and out too, loading the bread up.”
Greater Manchester Police warned local businesses in the Chorlton area in a Facebook post on January 22 that ‘a series of burglaries’ have been taking place between December 15 and January 19, on premises on Barlow Moor Road, Beech Road and Wilbraham Road.
They released CCTV pictures of the suspect, who is masked and wearing a backpack.
Dyer said that after seeing the pictures from GMP, they have passed their CCTV footage over to the police.
“We’ve told the police, and they now have the CCTV,” Dyer went on.
“We’re a pretty solid fortress generally, and there’s always people here. And we have the big gates at the front, so you can’t really get in.
"Basically, don’t mess with us.”
