A burglar stole a doctor's prescription pad and used it in a "spree" of pharmacies because he was in pain, a court heard. Nigel Wood, 42, of Hartington View, Staveley, Chesterfield, had been prescribed pain medication for medical conditions.
But his GP withdrew the drugs, it was claimed, and so he went to Newgate Medical Group in Worksop, where he is not registered, and took the prescription pad and used it. He managed to get his hands on Codeine phosphate from Boots - but failed in other attempts.
He also shoplifted from a One Stop shop in Worksop. After arrest and charge, Wood was sentenced for burglary, thefts and fraud by false representation and was jailed for two years on Friday (May 5). He was given credit for his earlier pleas of guilty.
As part of his sentence, he was handed a Criminal Behaviour Order - which covers areas including the Priory Centre, Victoria Retail Park, any pharmacy or GP surgery in Bassetlaw, apart from Larwood surgery, where he is a patient in Worksop, and not to enter any One Stop shop in Nottinghamshire.
He already had 39 convictions for 128 offences on his record, including 24 for fraud and 59 for theft. Judge Stuart Rafferty KC told him at Nottingham Crown Court: "It is sad to say you have been here too many times before and, at the age of 42, if the penny hasn't dropped by now, that you have been wasting your life, then probably it never will".
