Burger King has launched its new Katsu Curry range which will see four new burgers added to the menu.
Available from yesterday, March 8, the range includes a Katsu inspired twist on fan favourites such as the Whopper and Chicken Royale.
I decided to try out the new Katsu Chicken Royale, which includes crispy onions, mayo, katsu sauce and a crunchy pickled slaw.

All topped with the classic sesame seed bun with the iconic golden crunchy chicken, I’ll admit, I was sceptical at first.
It sounded amazing, but would it taste as good? Priced at £8.99 for a meal, I put the katsu range to the test.
The burger
I wasn’t sure what I was expecting with this burger, as the thought of a curry and a burger combined was a little odd.
My main concern was the fact that the burger was going to be messy, as that can be really off-putting.
Upon arrival, the Chicken Royale was wrapped up in its usual packaging, but this time, there was a strong smell of curry.
The katsu curry smell wasn’t overpowering though, it smelt more like a mild curry sauce than a hot spicy curry.
After removing the top bun, I was surprised with the appearance of the burger.
It was covered in coleslaw, plenty of mayo and katsu sauce, making it generally quite a saucy burger.
For me, it was just the right amount of sauce, but if there was any more sauce, things could’ve gotten messy.
I was instantly surprised by the taste after one bite, as it was a lot better than I thought it’d be.
The crunchy coleslaw really complemented the crispy golden chicken, and the katsu sauce wasn’t too spicy, it was just enough.
It was a really nice change to have this kind of burger, and I’d go as far to say it was actually quite light too.
The verdict
I was pleasantly surprised with how delicious this burger was, the katsu sauce was a great addition.
I enjoyed the crunch of the coleslaw and the onions, and the katsu sauce was lovely and thick.
I’m definitely glad I went for the chicken as opposed to the Whopper, as it worked well with the curry sauce.
For anyone that doesn’t like coleslaw though, this burger might not be as impressive as I thought.
I’d definitely order this burger again, as it was a nice change to the usual classic flame-grilled style.
