Two men who were caught on CCTV after trying to break into a Tyneside home have been jailed.
Paul Wise and James Sayers, who both have previous convictions for burglary, were arrested after attempting to gain access to a woman’s home on Beech Street, Gateshead, on November 10 last year.
CCTV footage showed them trying the door handles of cars on the same street after the failed break-in, which was later passed to police to help identify the suspects.

Wise, 47, of Stretford Court, Gateshead, appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court on November 21 and pleaded guilty to attempted burglary and vehicle interference. He was jailed for a year. Sayers, of Leyburn Place, Birtley, was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court to 10 months in prison on January 25 after pleading guilty to attempted burglary and vehicle interference at an earlier hearing.
Inspector Rebecca Gray, of Northumbria Police, said: “This is a good result thanks to the hard work of our officers and we also hope it gives the victim in the case a degree of closure.
“Everybody should feel safe and secure in their own home which is why we will always pursue those carrying out burglary offences and do all we can to bring them to justice.
“As ever, we would ask the public to be vigilant and take a few extra steps to help reduce the risk of them becoming a victim of crime. Please lock your doors and windows, keep your cars locked, and make sure any valuables are kept out of sight.”
