Bungling gang of burglars caught when one of them ordered burger in middle of a raid

A bungling gang of burglars was caught after one of them ordered a burger in the middle of a raid.

Musfer Jabbar was spotted on CCTV as he ordered the midnight snack on his mobile while stealing firearms from a gun shop.

His request for two lamb burger meals from a takeaway for him and his pal led to gang's capture.

Jabbar, 22, has been jailed for nine years over the raid at Hardy's Gunsmiths in Sheffield on April 3, 2020.

His three accomplices all from the same town were also jailed at Sheffield Crown Court for burglary and firearms offences.

Andrew Cross, 40, was given nine years, Andrew Coy, 35, five years and ten months and Shabaz Ismail, 22, was sentenced to eight years and one month.

While CCTV footage showed Coy and Cross driving away with stolen firearms, a hungry Jabbar stayed at the scene of the burglary along with Ismail .

The court heard Jabbar contacted a local takeaway and placed an order for two lamb burgers.

South Yorkshire Police said: "Ismail and Jabbar stayed in the shop but enquiries and CCTV showed Jabbar making a phone call.

"Phone checks confirmed that he was placing an order with a local takeaway for two lamb burger meals and this crucially placed them at the scene of the burglary."

The gunshop owner was fined £350 for not securing the building properly.

Half the guns were recovered in West Yorkshire and London, but some may still be in the hands of criminals.

Shabaz Ismail (pictured) was also involved in the raid with the three other partners in crime (South Yorkshire Police / SWNS)

Detective Constable Scott Davies, of the Armed Crime Team, said: "This was a burglary where Ismail and Jabbar took advantage of an insecure building and arranged for the guns to be removed.

"It resulted in a number of firearms potentially ending up in the wrong hands, with a number still at large and possibly on the country's streets."

In another unrelated case The Mirror reported how video footage showed three thugs racing through narrow residential streets in a high-speed police chase.

Footage was released by police in 2017 after the three men were jailed for burglary and fraud.

The dashcam video shows officers chasing three men in a stolen BMW as they try to evade capture by driving up to 80mph in a 30mph zone – including over speed humps.

They crashed into one police car and careered off the road through a green patch of land before coming to a stop.

The men attempted to flee the scene but two were caught and arrested by police.

A third was identified and apprehended two days later.

The three men were jailed at Derby Crown Court for a combined total of more than 10 years.

Ivor Martin was jailed for 44 months, Carl Flowers for 43 months and Ali Luthfur for 38 months.
