The Chicago Bulls failed to improve this past season. Just one year after snapping a four-year playoff drought, they found themselves on the outside looking in of the postseason once again. Now, it’ll be up to Arturas Karnisovas and the front office to find a way to propel the Bulls forward.
Free agency will play a big part in that, but before signing any new players, Chicago needs to worry about retaining the guys from last year’s team. Few were more impactful than Patrick Beverley, who joined the team post-trade deadline. Chicago went 13-9 with him in the starting lineup, and his leadership was evident.
However, the veteran point guard will be an unrestricted free agent, and Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report thinks he could be a potential target for the Atlanta Hawks, who he believes need a backup point guard. He also listed Jevon Carter and Reggie Jackson as potential options.
“Carter is the perfect fit, a tenacious defender who made 42.1 percent of his threes last season,” Swartz wrote. “Beverley can still hit shots and defend at a high level in limited minutes and Jackson carries 75 games of playoff experience.”
Beverley has established himself as one of the better guard defenders in the league. Plus, his willingness to be a pest on the defensive end makes him a perfect guy to have on the bench.
For Chicago, Beverley’s impact was clear as day, and while it feels as though they may lose him this summer, keeping him around could be a key to them getting back in the postseason next year.
