The Chicago Bulls made sure to stay active this summer, especially in free agency. They re-signed Nikola Vucevic and Coby White to new contracts while also bringing in Jevon Carter and Torrey Craig, improving the team’s overall depth as they attempt to push for the playoffs next year.
And while those additions are solid in a vacuum, the general state of the Bulls is still disappointing. They are not a championship contender, and the pieces they added are players a championship contender should be adding to help get them over the hump. That’s how the Bulls are acting, but instead, they are simply mediocre.
When handing out offseason grades, Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report ripped into Chicago for how content they are with being mediocre.
“At some point, the Chicago Bulls are going to have to accept the difficult reality that this group probably isn’t going to contend for a Finals appearance in a conference that includes Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jayson Tatum, Jimmy Butler and Joel Embiid.
“Being competitive in a play-in game with the eventual Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat may delay that realization a bit, but it has to be coming.
“Unfortunately, for what should be a growing contingent of Bulls fans, that realization didn’t come this summer,” Bailey wrote.
Bailey landed on a grade of a C for the Bulls this offseason. And while he likes the addition of Cartet specifically, all of the moves they’ve made this summer won’t move the needle enough to make them worth it.
