Bulls’ Javon Freeman-Liberty listed among top 5 summer league standouts

The Chicago Bulls have the chance to look at intriguing young talent during the summer league this year. As they attempt to field a competitive roster in hopes of making it back to the postseason, it’s still important that they include a healthy dose of young talent.

While the core of Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic is solid, it’s not quite a title contender, and if they want to maintain a solid foundation for the future, young assets need to be on the mind. And so far this summer league, one guy has stood out among the rest.

According to the NBA.com staff, Bulls point guard Javon Freeman-Liberty is among the top five summer league standouts so far.

“On a day most of the Bulls struggled to establish a rhythm, Freeman-Liberty had it in spades,” they wrote. “The 6-foot-4 guard, who went undrafted in 2022 before playing for the Windy City Bulls of the G League last season, showed the kind of efficient control that stands out in summer league. Freeman-Liberty finished with 24 points, six rebounds and five assists while shooting 60% overall and 4-for-6 from deep.”

Freeman-Liberty has been the best player on Chicago’s summer league squad by a wide margin, impressing in each game, but really showing out in the Bulls’ loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

And with the Bulls’ current shaky guard depth, he could have a chance to earn a roster spot heading into the year if he keeps up this level of play.
