The Chicago Bulls are not a championship-caliber team. At least, not yet. The core of Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic is solid but likely incapable of winning a title. Barring a herculean effort in rebuilding the roster around them, Chicago will depend on internal development to take their squad to the next level.
This means that the young players on the roster will need to step it up and make strides. Guys like Patrick Williams and Ayo Dosunmu could be big-time difference-makers, as could point guard Coby White, who showed off his potential toward the end of last year.
However, White will be a restricted free agent this summer, meaning the Bulls have to worry about re-signing him. According to Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report, the Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs could look to target him.
“White, 23, could use a change of scenery after being benched by the Chicago Bulls. He’s got good size at 6’5″ and play either guard position,” Swartz wrote about White’s fit with the Spurs.
For the Wizards, Swartz thinks White could make sense if Bradley Beal were to leave Washington.
“White, 23, could play a big role for Washington if Bradley Beal is moved as well,” Swartz wrote.
The 23-year-old guard’s role in Chicago has shifted throughout the years, and as the Bulls’ organizational goals have turned away from a rebuild, he hasn’t had a consistent role.
However, with Chicago’s hole at the point guard position, White could be an important piece of the puzzle, meaning they shouldn’t allow him to get stolen away in free agency.
