Superstar Bailey Smith has been added to the Western Bulldogs' injury list as they welcome back Cody Weightman for the crunch AFL clash with Port Adelaide.

The Power host the Dogs in the main event of Saturday's Gather Round double-header at a sold-out Adelaide Oval, with both sides entering with a 2-2 record.

But the highly anticipated contest will be missing some of its biggest names after Smith (calf) joined teammates Alex Keath (concussion) and Hayden Crozier (back) on the sidelines.

Port Adelaide have opted to leave out captain Tom Jonas because of a lingering knee issue, but have been bolstered by the return of fellow defender Ryan Burton after his two-match suspension.

Weightman has had a delayed start to the season with an adductor injury but is back in action alongside recalled pair Tim O'Brien and Taylor Duryea.

Key forward Ben Brown has overcome a sore back and returns to add firepower to Melbourne's forward line against Essendon in the opening match of Saturday's double-header.

Adam Tomlinson has been recalled as cover for star defender Jake Lever, who is out with an ankle injury, while Michael Hibberd (Achilles soreness) has been managed.

The Bombers have lost ex-Demons forward Sam Weideman (concussion) and Alwyn Davey Jnr has been managed, with Will Snelling recalled.

Desperate Fremantle and Gold Coast have both swung the axe after poor starts to the season, as the loser of Friday's clash at Norwood Oval faces a 1-4 hole.

The Dockers have dropped Liam Henry, Nathan O'Driscoll and Nathan Wilson, while Matt Taberner is injured, with Corey Wagner to make his club debut alongside fit-again Michael Frederick and recalled forward Sam Sturt.

Brandon Ellis has overcome a calf injury and will play his first game of the season for the Suns, who have recalled Mabior Chol, Brayden Fiorini and Sean Lemmens.

Elijah Hollands, Joel Jeffrey and Hewego Oea have been dropped and Levi Casboult managed.

Jack Riewoldt is back for Richmond alongside Ben Miller, with Jack Graham (hamstring), Toby Nankervis (ankle) and Tom Lynch (foot/suspension) all unavailable for Friday's clash with Sydney.

The Swans have also been battered, losing Dane Rampe, Lance Franklin, Tom McCartin and Paddy McCartin to injuries.

Hayden McLean is back in action with youngster Matty Roberts and debutant Corey Warner, the younger brother of gun midfielder Chad Warner.

Brisbane have managed Jack Gunston for Saturday's meeting with North Melbourne in Mt Barker and recalled Daniel Rich and Darcy Fort.

The Kangaroos have been bolstered by the return of Griffin Logue from suspension and Ben McKay from injury.

On Sunday, Hawthorn will be without Will Day against GWS after the midfielder was suspended for two matches at the tribunal for a dumping tackle.

Back-in-form premiers Geelong have lost Gary Rohan, who accepted a one-match suspension for a sling tackle, for their clash with lowly West Coast.

St Kilda have named Tim Membrey on an extended interchange bench for their meeting with Collingwood as the key forward edges closer to his first game of the season after a knee injury.
