Buildings evacuated after thee-vehicle smash at Scots petrol pump sparks gas leak fears

Buildings were evacuated after a crash at a Scots petrol station sparked a suspected gas leak.

Emergency services scrambled to the Morrisons garage off Alderstone Road in Armadale, Livingston, after the alarm was raised at around 7.45pm on Sunday, April 24.

A picture take from the scene showed a mini bus smashed into the petrol pump, with a silver hackney taxi also involved.

Officers were alerted to a three-vehicle smash at a petrol pump at the station.

Nearby buildings were quickly evacuated as a precaution following a suspected gas leak caused by the collision.

Police alerted locals on social media to the incident and asked residents to avoid the area as they sealed off a number of nearby streets.

The roads between Adambrae, Almondvale and Newpark Road roundabouts were closed off, as was Alderstone Road.

Firefighters could be seen in attendance dealing with the incident.

Thankfully there were no serious injuries reported and the area was declared safe at around 12.50am this morning.

Last night a statement from West Lothian Police said: "Officers are assisting with a crash involving three vehicles at a petrol station in the Almondvale area of Livingston.

"Nearby buildings have been evacuated as a precaution following a suspected gas leak caused by the collision.

"The public is asked to avoid the area as there are a number of road closures in place. Roads are closed between the Adambrae, Almondvale and Newpark Road roundabouts, as is Alderstone Road."

Inspector Brendan McMahon said: “We’d like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding, as we worked alongside Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and engineers to ensure the area was safe.”
