Buenos Aires City police on Wednesday raided the hotel in which British artist and former member of One Direction Liam Payne died last week.
The singer-songwriter died after falling from the balcony of his room on the third floor of CasaSur Hotel. The preliminary autopsy report recorded 25 fractures and multiple traumas on his body, as well as the ingestion of legal and illegal drugs.
What was police looking for at the Hotel?
"They are looking for all the hotel's paper and electronic records," anonymous sources told local outlet Infobae. Police officers focused their efforts on the guest registration area in the lobby.
Additionally, it was revealed that police are reviewing footage from the hotel's security cameras, trying to identify who might have supplied Liam with the illegal drugs.
Liam's father, Geoff Payne, is in Argentina while the investigation regarding his son's background and mental health struggles continues to unfold.
There is speculation that Liam's father will remain in Argentina until he can bring his body back to England and hold the funeral.
Among the many documents required for this process is a death certificate specifying the cause of death. For this, forensic experts are awaiting toxicology results and other lab tests.
Liam had traveled to Argentina to attend two events and handle immigration matters that would allow him to live in the United States. Accompanied by his girlfriend, influencer Kate Cassidy, the artist attended a wedding and a concert by his former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan. He was hoping to secure an extraordinary abilities visa, but the process had been delayed due to previous reports of substance abuse problems.
