College fees could drop by €250 a year under new cost of living measures set to be introduced in Budget 2023.
Students are currently facing €3,000 per year bills could benefit from the new measures which are set to be among next month's budget announcement. While a paper on how to cut costs for college is expected, it is believed that Further and Higher Education Minister Simon Harris is pushing for a direct cut to fees.
The Irish Examiner reports that cuts could go as high as €500 but they're expected to be limited to €250 this year. But there are no concrete plans on how this cut is going to be introduced and it could end up being part of the grant system.

There are calls for a more universal cut across the board which could see the change go to the overall fee. Mr Harris said he believes the measures need to "help [those who] feel they don’t get any financial support and assistance from the Government" while speaking at Trinity College.
Other education measures that are expected to come in the future is a cut to pupil-teacher ratios at primary level bringing it from 24-1 to 23-1. That means around 1,750 teaching posts will need to be created in Ireland.
