Arizona Cardinals safety Budda Baker has been in the league for a while now and has seen changes in the defensive back room at safety and at cornerback. The team is set at safety with Baker and Jalen Thompson but there are some questions at cornerback.
However, Baker is a big fan of the group the Cardinals have.
“Personally I feel like it’s the best (defensive back room) that I’ve had in my career,” he told reporters after Monday’s practice at OTAs.
That statement will come as a shock as he has been on teams with Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu and Antoine Bethea.
It is the best defensive back room in another way.
“We’re all kind of young, we all have the same kind of personalities and we’re all friends,” he said.
It is a young group. Baker, entering his sixth NFL season, is the senior member.
Baker is already a Pro Bowl and All-Pro player. He said Jalen Thompson should be a Pro Bowl player.
He also believes the cornerback room, which is made up of Byron Murphy, Marco Wilson, Jeff Gladney, Antonio Hamilton and young players, will surprise people.
Murphy, Wilson and Gladney, signed in free agency this offseason, are expected to be the starters.
“We’ve got some guys that you’ll be excited to see,” Baker said.
If Baker is excited about the group, maybe we should be a little bit fired up, too.
