Despite being dealt with yet another disappointing live-action reenactment just last year, fans of beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender can rejoice knowing that a 26-episode animated sequel is on its way.
The series, called Avatar: Seven Havens, will take place following the events of The Legend of Korra and will see the rise of the next avatar: a female Earthbender.
Original showrunners and Avatar co-creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are developing Seven Havens, and the plot so far seems to depict a much darker world than the ones we saw in its predecessors.
What is the plot of Avatar: Seven Havens?
Buckle up, it sounds like this one’s gonna be a bit of a doozy.
The series’ upcoming plot was revealed by the President of Nickelodeon Animation and Paramount Animation, Ramsey Naito, in a press release and stated that it will be “full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters.”
The press release further expanded on the plot, describing Seven Haven’s world as “shattered by a devastating cataclysm,” with the title referencing the few last-remaining civilization safe-zones that managed to endure the onslaught.
“A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra – but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior,” the press release reads.
“Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”
Oof – it sounds like this poor new Avatar (who also has a twin!?) is in for a pretty wild ride.
When is Avatar: Seven Havens coming out?
As of writing, there is no confirmed date of when this series will be released.
But keep an eye on this space! We will update as soon as we get more information later this year.
Will there be any returning characters in Avatar: Seven Havens?
There is no confirmation on whether or not any still-living Korra characters might make an appearance (although I’m holding out hope we get to see our queen Asami again!), it’s highly unlikely we’ll see any folks from The Last Airbender still kicking around.

But who knows…maybe there will be some time-travelling shenanigans or an abundance of flash-backs, and since spirits will seemingly play a big role then maybe we might just see Uncle Iroh again!
The news comes alongside the 20th anniversary of the original series, which first hit our screens on Nickelodeon back in the yesteryear of 2005, as well as more information on the anticipated Untitled Animated Aang Avatar Film that is set to be released in January 2026.
The film will expand on the characters found in the original Avatar series, and will feature the voice talents of Dave Bautista, Dionne Quan, Jessica Matten, Román Zaragoza and newcomer Eric Nam.
Not only will Avatar fans be treated to this new upcoming series and film, but the anniversary also announced a new animated 10-episode web series on YouTube and a new battlegrounds-style game on Roblox.
