The future of the Ohio State baseball team appears bright. There are many young players that began to come into their own at the tail-end of the 2019 season. So much so that the Buckeyes went on an unexpected and memorable run to the Big Ten Tournament Championship and an appearance in the 2019 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
One of those players is shortstop Zach Dezenzo who has now been selected as a Freshman All-American according to the newspaper Collegiate Baseball. Out of Alliance, Ohio, Dezenzo was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman team in 2019 thanks in large part to swatting ten homers, collecting 54 hits and 37 RBIs.
He was a starter from day one and took over and became the full-time shortstop early in the season.
Dezenzo becomes the 17th Freshman All-American in Ohio State baseball history, and the first since Ronnie Dawson and Tanner Tully in 2014. OSU will get at least two more years out of the 6-4, 195 lb. slugger, and it should be fun to see him continue his development.
