Buchanan Bus Station lockdown amid 'suspicious package' fears

Buchanan Bus Station was put on lockdown after reports of a suspicious package found in the area.

Police were called to the Glasgow station at around 12.15pm today.

The station was evacuated and a police cordon was placed around the aread.

Killermont Street, North Hanover Street and Cowcaddens Road were sealed off to motorists and pedestrians.

Officers have asked members of the public to avoid the area.

Greater Glasgow Police Division released a statement at around 1pm on Wednesday.

It read: "Officers were called to a report of a suspicious package at Buchanan Bus Station, Killermont Street, Glasgow at around 12.15pm on Wednesday, June 8.

"The bus station has been evacuated and a cordon is in place.

"Killermont Street, North Hanover Street and Cowcaddens Road are closed to vehicles and pedestrians.

"The public is asked to avoid the area."

Just after 1.30pm police confirmed at the station plus all three aforementioned roads re-opened.

Officers stated that there was 'no threat to the public'.

A statement from the force read: Buchanan Bus Station, Killermont Street, North Hanover Street and Cowcaddens Road, Glasgow have now reopened following an earlier report of a suspicious package.

"There was no threat to the public."
