The 2-year-old daughter of Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett died Sunday after drowning in the family’s pool.
Tampa Bay Police report that officers responded to an emergency call from Barrett’s residence around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, regarding a child who had fallen into the pool. Barrett’s daughter, Arrayah, was transported to a nearby hospital where doctors attempted to perform lifesaving measures, though she was later pronounced dead.
An investigation into the situation is ongoing, though it’s believed the incident was an accident, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
The Buccaneers released a statement, offering their support and sympathy to Barrett and his wife, Jordanna.
“Today’s tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna, and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time,” the organization wrote. “While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this, we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah.”

Barrett, 30, has been with the Buccaneers since the 2019 season, having made two Pro Bowls with the franchise. Last season, a torn Achilles limited him to just eight games. He played the first four years of his NFL career with the Broncos, who signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado State in ’15.
