BTS return with new single Take Two ahead of tenth-anniversary gig

BTS have temporarily re-emerged from their hiatus with a new single ahead of their tenth-anniversary concert later this month.

The South Korean boy band released Take Two on Friday, and the single became the first to be added to TikTok’s ‘new release’ promotional tool. The feature allows bands and singers to highlight new releases in the music tab section of the social media app.

The single is welcome news for fans, with the group facing an uncertain future as two members signed on to complete military service. Under South Korean law, all able-bodied men must complete at least 18 months of service - usually before they are 28.

RM and J-Hope were among the writers of the track, which is said to serve as a tribute to their many fans, while SUGA was one of the producers.

The song’s lyrics include: “Can’t you see the take two/Stories unfolding just for you/ Yeah we never felt so young/When together we sing the song.”

The release of the single concludes the #10yrswithBTS campaign which saw 400 million tune in to promotional videos.

While J-Hope and Jin complete military service, the other members are pursuing solo careers. All seven contributed to Take Two, but it appears that the group will be minus their two army-bound members when they perform the anniversary concert on June 17.

BigHit Music, the group’s label, is hoping that all seven members can be back together to perform by 2025 - although this is not set in stone. It is also unclear when the other band members will complete their service.

Band member RM told Rolling Stone: “It will come together again when we finish our military service, and we will look for new synergies between us to enter a second phase. But, in any case, nothing lasts forever.”
