BTS and Olivia Rodrigo are two of the biggest names in the music industry right now, and they both have brand new hits taking the world by storm at the moment. One has been churning out smashes for several years now, while the latter star is just getting started, but the powerhouses both enjoyed historic weeks on Spotify last frame with their latest singles, which dominated like few ever have on the platform.
Both Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” and BTS’s “Butter” ended the most recent tracking frame with historically-impressive stream counts on Spotify, and the two tunes now rank inside the top 10 on the list of the largest one-week streaming sums of all time.
Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” broke the record for the most-streamed song in a single week in Spotify history, as the pop-rock cut racked up an incredible 84 million plays in just seven days. What’s more surprising than the total count is the fact that last week wasn’t the tune’s first on the site. Unlike many much-hyped new releases, “Good 4 U” actually improved in its second stint on the platform. Rodrigo steals that record from herself, as her previous single “Drivers License” became the first song in Spotify history to earn at least 80 million plays in a tracking frame (Friday until the following Thursday) earlier this year.
BTS’s “Butter” ends this past tracking week as the second-most-streamed song in the world, and while it arrives with a hefty sum, it is still fairly far behind “Good 4 U.” The South Korean septet’s latest launch kicks off with just over 54 million plays on the streaming giant, coming in 30 million listens behind the most popular effort. That sum is still enough to give “Butter” the ninth-largest streaming week ever for a single.
These days, it’s not uncommon for a new hit from one of the most popular artists in the industry to score one of the top 10 largest streaming weeks when it first arrives, and the ranking of the 10 most impressive seven-day counts does change every few months. What is noteworthy is the fact that two of the greatest streaming sums accrued in one week took place at the same time.
The teen singer-songwriter and the all-male vocal act both displayed that they have massive and dedicated fan bases who banded together to help their favorites score eye-popping streaming sums with new singles, and they have all collectively made the past tracking week a historic one on the platform.
