BT to hire nearly 50 apprentices and graduates in Bristol

BT Group has announced plans to hire nearly 50 apprentices and graduates in Bristol as part of its September 2023 intake. The telecoms giant said it would be recruiting across its cyber security, network engineering and data analysis departments as it looked to support the UK's digital sectors.

The new hires will also be involved in the company’s plans to build and extend its 5G network around the country. The 47 positions will be based at BT's new office near Bristol Temple Meads station, which is due to open formally next month. There will be 31 new graduates and 16 new apprentices joining the business.

The announcement comes just days after BT confirmed it has started to move staff into its vast new offices in Bristol. The 13-storey waterfront building, Assembly Bristol, will become a hub for up to 2,500 employees.

Last year, BT announced plans to create a further 170 jobs at the site. The company is looking to bolster its in-house digital workforce in Bristol and will bring the majority of new staff in by April next year.

Athalie Williams, chief human resources officer at BT Group, said: “As one of the largest private sector employers of apprentices and graduates in the UK, we continue to recruit and attract brilliant people into our business and we offer unparalleled development opportunities to those who join us.

“Despite the current economic backdrop, we’re building a future pipeline of talent to help drive growth across our business, deliver great outcomes for all of our customers and to underpin economic growth in the UK.”

Alongside its apprenticeship and graduate scheme, BT said it was investing in "several initiatives" to support young people and jobseekers. These include the company's Work Ready and FastFutures programmes, which the telecoms firm said would form part of its ambition to help 25 million people in the UK develop digital skills by 2026.
