New Delhi: In a joint operation with Assam Police, the Border Security Force (BSF) has recovered and seized drugs worth Rs 26 crore, an official statement said on Friday.
In the statement, BSF stated that in its drive against the illicit trafficking of drugs and narcotics, it carried out a joint operation with the Cachar Police of Assam on Thursday, October 12, 2023, during night hours.
While acting on a specific input about a large number of illicit trafficking of Yaba tablets in a car on NH-37 coming from Silchar towards Karimganj side, drugs worth Rs 26 crore were recovered and seized, the statement added.
Accordingly, the joint team of BSF and Cachar Police intercepted the car at about 9 PM near the general area of Srikona, Silchar and carried out a thorough search of the vehicle and recovered 26 packets of Yaba tablets (containing 10,000 tablets in each packet), total 2,60,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 26 crore concealed in the cavity of tail light and upper differential cavity (rear side of the vehicle), as per the statement.
The seized Yaba tablets along with the car have been handed over to the police station, Sadar, Silchar of District Cachar (Assam) for further legal formalities.
Further, the statement mentioned that Mizoram and Cachar Frontier, Border Security Force have seized a total of 7, 97,070 Yaba tablets since January this year. (ANI)
