Bryson DeChambeau was left unimpressed and shaken when a course marking rope caught him in eye during LIV Golf's latest event in Chicago.
The six foot American golfer is known for his raw power and being able to hit the ball further than most in the professional game. However, after hitting his approach shot on the 14th hole DeChambeau failed to duck a course rope resulting in it hitting his eye.
The LIV Golf rebel immediately went down to his knees stating: "Oh my god. I can't see. Right in my eye. I can’t even see right now. The thing split my eye.”
After taking a few minutes to compose himself DeChambeau continued and made the putt to birdie the 14th. However, he may have still been sore falling down the leaderboard with bogeys at the 15th and 16th.
DeChambeau finished in a tie for eighth, 6-under and five shots behind winner Cameron Smith who took his first LIV Golf event victory winning £3.5million. Despite having a sore eye DeChambeau won over £506,000 for his eighth placed finish.
As DeChambeau looked visibly shaken by the incident, LIV Golf’s YouTube commentator David Feherty made the comment: "Off with his head!”
The 2020 US Open winner was part of the 2021 United States winning Ryder Cup team. However, LIV Golf members face being banned from the Ryder Cup and next week's Presidents Cup as the war between the Saudi-backed series and the PGA Tour continues.
“I personally think that the team events are only hurting themselves by not allowing us to play, not allowing us to qualify through some capacity, in some facet, ” DeChambeau said.
“It is sad that those governing bodies have not allowed us to be able to qualify. I want to play in numerous events on the PGA Tour. It would be awesome. That’s what LIV Golf has tried to – they have allowed us to play on the PGA Tour. It’s the PGA Tour barring us from doing so.”
