Bryson DeChambeau officially joins LIV Golf Series ahead of second event as he turns back on PGA Tour

Bryson DeChambeau has become the latest player to officially join the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series.

The inaugural event got underway on Thursday at Centurion Club in St Albans and was swiftly followed by an announcement from the PGA Tour that all those involved had been banned with immediate effect. A number of players, including Sergio Garcia and Dustin Johnson, had already resigned their membership, while Ian Poulter revealed his intention to challenge the decision.

Despite that move from the PGA Tour, DeChambeau will be one of those teeing it up when the series arrives in Portland later this month for the second event, from June 30 to July 2. Reports suggest Rickie Fowler and Patrick Reed could be joining him.

“Bryson DeChambeau is an exciting addition to LIV Golf’s supercharged style of play,” LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman said.

“He is passionate about the sport, innovative in his approach and committed to pushing the boundaries in pursuit of excellence.

“He’s not afraid to think outside the box and supports our mission of doing things differently to grow our game. The power and energy he brings to the course will deliver added electricity to our competition in Portland and beyond.”

The announcement comes a week after DeChambeau was asked about his involvement in the series and insisted he was not planning to take part.

He said: “For me, I personally don’t think that at this point in time I’m in a place in my career where I can risk things like that.”

However, it had emerged in recent days that DeChambeau would be making the move and in response Rocket Mortgage ended their sponsorship agreement with the American.

The 28-year-old is yet to make a cut in 2022 and underwent wrist surgery in April after shooting rounds of 76 and 80 at the Masters.
