Bryony Frost is awaiting the result of scans to see if she can ride her beloved Frodon in the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase on Boxing Day after breaking her collarbone in a heavy fall at the weekend.
Frost, 27, was taken to hospital in Wrexham after she took a crashing fall from the Paul Nicholls-trained Sir Psycho at the second fence of a novices’ handicap chase at Bangor on Saturday.
Nicholls revealed on Monday that Frost was “distraught” about the injury which will result in another spell on the sidelines, having spent six months out when suffering a back fracture and shoulder injury in April.
Having famously won the King George on Frodon in 2020, Frost has been looking forward to another tilt at the Kempton showpiece after the fan favourite returned to form by winning the Badger Beer Chase earlier this month.
Nicholls, speaking to Betfair, said: “It wasn’t Sir Psycho’s finest hour. He jumped the first really well and then made an awful mistake at the second, sort of half changed his mind in mid air and had a heavy fall.
“She is obviously very distraught. She has actually broken her collarbone. I think she sent the scans off to a specialist today to have a look at them and they will come back to her in a few days time with an opinion.
“I know she already has her sights on riding Frodon in the King George so that’s a month away. So I think that’s her aim. We have to hope her scan results are okay for her to proceed to aim at that date.”
Frost missed the whole of the summer due to injury. She rode a winner on the Flat at Goodwood on her first ride back in October and three over jumps from 26 rides.
She has teamed up with Frodon for 11 victories, becoming the first female jockey to ride a Grade 1 winner when capturing the Ryanair Chase at the 2018 Cheltenham Festival.
Their most recent Grade 1 success came in the 2021 Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal.
