Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo – joining Arsenal in pursuit of the striker.
Both clubs are keen to sign the 25-year-old forward, but Brentford have made it clear he’s going nowhere in January.
If he does leave the Bees, it will be in the summer. But with multiple top clubs chasing him, it’s clear the Cameroon international is in demand.
Mbeumo has 13 goals in 20 Premier League games this season, already four more than his previous season’s best.
His goals have been crucial for Thomas Frank’s side, who lost former star striker Ivan Toney to the Saudi Pro League last summer.
Arsenal were reported to be keen on bringing Mbeumo to the Emirates, but it appears Manchester United have joined them in chasing his signature.
Manchester United Keen On Bryan Mbeumo
New United boss Ruben Amorim is thought to be a big fan of Mbeumo’s work-ethic and versatility.
The striker joined Brentford from French club Troyes in 2019, and was a club-record signing at the time.
His arrival at Old Trafford would depend on outgoings, with United keen to offload a number of surplus stars.
Newcastle are also believed to be monitoring Mbeumo’s situation, with Eddie Howe a big admirer.
Thomas Frank Says ‘Good Luck’ Signing Mbeumo In January
Brentford boss Thomas Frank was bullish in his response to suggestions Mbeumo could leave before the summer.
He said: “In January? I would say good luck. We love Bryan. He loves playing here. He has had a fantastic season, so nothing will happen.”
According to Transfermarkt, Mbeumo’s current market value is more than £40m.
And any fee for the forward will only have risen after his recent performances.
A New Year’s Day goal against Arsenal reminded everyone just how lethal a finisher Mbeumo is.
Only Erling Haaland and Mo Salah have scored more goals in the Premier League this campaign.
The 25-year-old’s contract runs until June 2026, meaning Brentford are under no obligation to cash in this window.
However, Mbeumo has previously indicated he wishes to one day play on the biggest stage.
In May 2024, he told L’Equipe: “I have spent five years at Brentford, at a club that has allowed me to grow and pass a milestone but yes, I would like to play in the biggest competitions, at the best clubs.
“It is tantalising to see some big clubs interested in me. We will see.”
