Bryan Gil decision could sway Tottenham's dream Nicolo Zaniolo transfer for Antonio Conte

The start of the new season is just around the corner and Antonio Conte has been working his Tottenham side hard, ahead of the big campaign ahead. Spurs have already welcomed six new players to the squad this summer, with Djed Spence being the latest addition.

The Lilywhites have already travelled to South Korea and Scotland for their three pre-season friendlies so far, winning two and drawing one of them. Their final match is against Roma on Saturday, which will be held in Israel a week before the opening of the Premier League season, where Tottenham welcome Southampton to N17.

Despite the season soon starting, the transfer window will stay open for over a month, meaning there could still be plenty of business for Spurs to do. Conte has already admitted that he would be opening to strengthen his side where the opportunity arises.

However, just as important are outgoings. The Italian needed to increase the size of his squad to help with rotation for the 2022/23 campaign to deal with the busy fixture schedule and adoption of the five substitution rule.

Conte also needs to ensure that he has a cohesive squad and that he can see all members in his plans for the upcoming season. Therefore there are still some decisions to be made regarding both incomings and outgoings, and football.london takes a look at what still needs to be done to complete Tottenham's attack.

Outgoings

Conte currently has six attacking options: Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Moura, Bryan Gil and now Richarlison. This fulfils his want for two players per position, but they may not all remain in N17.

The first three mentioned created a strong front line in the second half of last season, after the Swedish international made the move to the capital in January and created an immediate impact. None of the trio will be going anywhere.

There were some questions raised over Moura's future, with his lack of regular game time last season. However, the Brazilian seems positive about the season ahead and his recent comments seem to indicate he will be around for at least another season.

"We have stars like Harry and Sonny. We have a manager who is one of the best. We have a structure, an amazing training ground, an unbelievable stadium, great fans. We have everything we need to achieve. Now it depends on us. We need to work hard and show on the pitch we deserve to win," Moura said during Tottenham's South Korea tour.

Conte has also experimented with playing Moura in the right wing-back role and this added versatility may help him get more opportunities on the pitch. This just leaves Gil.

The 21-year-old made nine Premier League appearances after his move last summer, before going on loan in January, to Valencia. The Spaniard then made 13 La Liga appearances, as he looked to develop before his return.

Earlier this year, Gil opened up on his move to England and his future. "It’s hard because it’s the first time you go out to live in another country, with another language," he admitted.

"The pace in England is a bit higher. It takes a bit more physicality and it’s hard, but I think I’ll get used to it...Nobody knows what can happen tomorrow and it will be decided in the summer. Is the only thing that I can say."

The youngster has returned and has been given game time in all three pre-season friendlies so far and has impressed. Gil has added pace to the game, giving 100%, with some nice movement and good spells of play.

However, there is a question of whether he would be able to do this consistently when given chances in the Premier League next season. It would seem that a loan move would be most beneficial for the winger and there has already been interest from across Europe.

The 21-year-old has admirers in both Spain and France, although a temporary move to a Premier League side would likely be better to help him settle into English football.

Incomings

Any further attacking incomings - if there are any - are likely to be impacted by the outgoings. Throughout the summer so far, Spurs have been linked with a number of attacking players.

Jesse Lingard had been linked with the Lilywhites in January and rumours resurfaced this summer, before his move to Nottingham Forest. Memphis Depay has also been linked as well as Nicolo Zaniolo, who can play in a number of attacking positions.

The Italian made 28 Serie A appearances for Roma last season, with seven goal contributions and could add quality and versatility to Conte's side.

Conte needs to make a decision on if he wants another attacking player, which may be dependent on what happens with Gil. The Tottenham boss will then need to decide on the type of player he wants, someone who is versatile or perhaps spending a bit more money or a perfect fit on the wing.

Either way there are still some decisions for the Italian to make to complete his attack, but luckily he does still have time on his side.
