Bryan Gil breaks his Tottenham transfer silence after huge Valencia blow on deadline day

Bryan Gil now looks set to remain a Tottenham player ahead of Thursday evening's 11pm transfer deadline. Excelling for Valencia in the second part of last season, the 21-year-old was heavily tipped to return to the Mestalla once again so that he could feature regularly with first-team opportunities set to be limited for him in north London.

Speaking last weekend, Valencia boss Gennaro Gattuso admitted that the deal was practically there and it would go through once Tottenham had brought in a replacement for the Spain Under-21s star. However, that has not happened and it means Gil will be part of Antonio Conte's squad and provide cover for the likes of Son Heung-min and Co in attack.

As a result, Roma's Justin Kluivert, who was set to sign for Fulham but was denied a UK work permit, will instead sign on for Los Che after they missed out on Gil. Flourishing back in his home country in the final few months of last season, it appears that Gil had his heart set on a return to the club in his bid to play regularly.

Following reports of the player's loan deal to Valencia collapsing, the ex-Sevilla man took to social media and posted a cryptic message in Spanish on his Instagram Stories. It read: "Sometimes an old photo makes us value moments where we were happier and didn’t realise."

Clearly disappointed that his move to Valencia has fallen through, Gil will be hoping time on the pitch comes his way over the next few months with Tottenham in Premier League and Champions League action. However, that is not going to be easy at all for him with Conte having a wealth of attacking options at his disposal - which has only strengthened this summer.

An unused substitute for Tottenham in their first three games of the season, the 2021 summer signing was absent from the matchday squad for the Nottingham Forest and West Ham fixtures through injury. Conte did admit on Monday that he will start to work again in two to three days, thus meaning he could be back in the squad on Saturday against Fulham.
