Brute who killed cop in Lanarkshire back in jail after police manhunt amid parole breach

A killer who battered a former policeman to death with his own truncheon is back behind bars.

John Mackie was detained after allegedly breaching parole conditions following his release over the killing of Mike Mosey.

The 49-year-old, whose life sentence was reduced to 13 years on appeal, has been now returned to prison and will only be freed again when the Parole Board for Scotland deem it appropriate.

Mackie was originally jailed for life in 2007 for bludgeoning Mike, 58, to death in Braehead, Lanarkshire.

He was released on licence in August last year.

A manhunt was launched last month when vanished amid claims he broke the terms of his parole.

Officers searched properties in Lanarkshire in a bid to trace him.

A police spokesman said: “He was traced on Sunday, September 4.”

The Parole Board for Scotland was contacted for comment.
