Brute permanently disfigures ex-girlfriend before viciously attacking new boyfriend in bed

A brute left his ex-partner permanently disfigured in a nasty assault against her and her new boyfriend.

Robert Martin, 56, of Barnes Street in Ayr, launched a vicious assault on his ex and her new partner on June 5 last year when he entered their home and garden on Ayr’s Chalmers Road uninvited.

One of Martin’s victims was still in bed when he began punching them to the head and body.

Ayr Sheriff Court heard that at 9pm on June 5, 2021, Martin’s ex-partner went to bed before being awoken at 9.40pm by her dogs barking.

She spotted a broken wooden table outside and heard Martin climbing over the fence.

Martin had entered the garden uninvited before he launched his attack by grabbing the woman by her hair, forcing her to the ground, and repeatedly punching her to the head and body.

Martin then let himself into the home and found his ex’s new partner in bed where he punched him to the head and body.

The woman was punched again and later said she felt like it “nearly knocked her unconscious”.

Both witnesses were taken to hospital and Martin was traced by the police.

Martin’s ex was left with two broken ribs and a laceration to her upper lip, which was described as being the full thickness of the lip.

She required facial surgery at Crosshouse Hospital and the injury is said to result in permanent scarring.

A crack in her tooth has resulted in sensitivity and she may need root canal treatment to four of her teeth.

Her new partner was left with superficial head injuries and facial bruising.

Police went back to the scene of the crime and noticed a broken wooden table and blood traces found within the home.

Blood smears were found on the bedroom door and there was a blood stain on the bed.

Solicitor John Gallagher told Sheriff Desmond Leslie: “Mr Martin does appear before you as a genuine first-time offender.”

Sentencing for Martin was adjourned for the court to obtain criminal justice social work reports.

He will reappear at a later date.
