Brute jailed after he threatened to ruin the life of woman who adopted him

A vile thug has been jailed after he threatened to ruin the life of the woman who adopted him.

Daniel Carey threatened to wreck the car and the life of the woman who raised him in a series of vile WhatsApp messages.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard he’d subjected Marjorie Carey to the abuse because he was going through a “hard time”.

On another occasion repeat offender Carey, of Aurs Drive, Barrhead, also threatened a shop worker when she attempted to open the cafe she worked in.

Procurator fiscal depute Amber Feeney told Paisley Sheriff Court: “Around 3am on November 22, 2020, Marjorie and David Carey, who are the accused’s adopted parents were asleep in the bedroom when the landline phone rang waking them.

“Marjorie then received messages on WhatsApp from the accused’s mobile phone with him making several threats that he would attend her house to confront her and wreck her car and her life.

“He stated, ‘you little s**t, I have a good mind to punch your f*****g face in.’

“He continued with the usual profanities and also stated, ‘see how you f*****g like it you f*****g n****r.

“He continued to make threatening remarks and both Marjorie and David Carey attended Giffnock police station.

“Officers traced the accused at his home address where he was cautioned and charged when he replied, ‘I need to watch what I’m saying to people cause I keep getting arrested. I’m so sorry.”

Carey, 26, who is currently serving a 16 month jail sentence also admitted he threatened a shop worker in Aurs Drive, over a row with another man.

Ms Feeney explained: “Around 7am the witness attended at the shop she works in to open it.

“The accused approached and shouted, ‘You better tell Chrissy Harris to stop stalking me.’

“Carey was noted to have an aggressive stance startling the witness and due to the time of year with her being on her own in the hours of darkness.

“Carey then stated, ‘Every c**t knows him, if you don’t tell him I’ll get you yourself and you’ll be sorry.

“He continued to shout and make threats stating, ‘that’s shut you up knowing what I’ll do.’”

Carey was granted bail on February 10, 2021 with the conditions that he had no contact with his adopted parents.

However, he approached them in August last year asking for them to buy him a boat or a car so he could “go off grid.”

Defence agent Ms Jack told the court Carey behaved in this way as he was having an “extremely rough time.”

Ms Jack told Carey learned he had a younger biological brother who was being raised by his biological mother and this was something Carey “didn’t approve of.”

Ms Jack added: “He is sorry about what’s happened. There is no explanation other than he was going through a hard time.”

On sentencing, Sheriff Sukhwinder Gill said: “You behaved appallingly towards your adoptive parents, not only did you shout and swear, you made racial remarks and threats of violence.”

Sheriff Gill jailed Carey for a total of eight months.
