Britain’s Got Talent judge Bruno Tonioli recently revealed a harrowing moment from the new 18th series that left him deeply shaken. Returning this year alongside Alesha Dixon, Simon Cowell, and Amanda Holden, the Italian dancer recounted an audition so disturbing he wished it would end immediately. The series, which kicked off on Saturday, February 22, with Ant and Dec at the helm, has already delivered a mix of jaw-dropping talent and gut-wrenching performances.
In an exclusive interview with OK!, Bruno praised the quality of acts on the show, saying,“This year we’ve seen some amazing acts that are absolutely astonishing on every level,” highlighting the range of performances from the utterly inspiring to the downright grotesque. Yet amidst the dazzling displays, one particular audition pushed him over the edge.
Describing the unpredictable nature of the show, Bruno explained,“The great thing about this show is that you go from laughing to crying to being completely horrified,” a sentiment that encapsulated the rollercoaster of emotions experienced by both the judges and the audience. In that same interview, he recalled one specific act that involved “big hammers and axes” being used in a destructive manner.
He elaborated,“One act had big hammers and axes! They were smashing things. That got me very worried, I wanted to stop it.” This moment, so unsettling in its intensity, prompted concerns not only for the safety of those involved but also for the overall direction of the performance.
During a recent appearance on This Morning on Thursday, February 20, Tonioli became emotional while speaking with hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary about the show’s new series. Reflecting on the sheer unpredictability of the talent he witnesses, he confessed,
“it surprises me every time because, you know, I’ve been doing this for a very long time, so I don’t make it up.”
He continued, describing the profound connection he feels with the contestants, “I feel like I’m not even judging, I’m commenting from my heart because I know what they go through. I know how hard it is to perform in front of an audience, to audition. It means a lot to them. I’m crying now, and I’m actually a part of it.”
Bruno further added, “And sometimes the talent blows your mind, and I find it very encouraging that there’s so much talent out there. Some are absolutely bonkers, but that’s what it is; you never know what is going to happen from one moment to another.”
Looking ahead, Tonioli revealed that he will be temporarily replaced by YouTube star KSI later in the season, as he has already committed to filming for Dancing With The Stars in the US. His candid revelations about the highs and lows of live television underscore the unpredictable nature of the show, where extraordinary talent and shocking performances can unfold in the span of a single audition.
