Bruno Guimaraes' pre-season rest must wait as Newcastle star jets off with Lucas Paqueta

After a hectic season of Premier League football, who can blame Newcastle United stars for swiftly jetting off to enjoy some well-earned down time abroad. Paul Dummett and Mark Gillespie are currently in Dubai, Miguel Almiron is living it up in the Maldives and Jonjo Shelvey was recently spotted at Disneyland.

Bruno Guimaraes ' rest will have to wait, however, as he is already on his way to play yet more football. Just four days after starting in the 2-1 win over Burnley, the 24-year-old is in Asia to take part in three Brazil fixtures in the space of nine days.

A vast majority of Tite's side jetted off early, with their first tie against South Korea not until June 2. Brazil then take on Japan before returning to South America for a final friendly with Argentina.

Guimaraes took to Instagram on Wednesday, sharing photos from on board a flight heading towards South Korea. The snap showed his in-flight TV which was displaying his upcoming flight details.

Lucas Paqueta may well have been on the exact same plane, posting an almost identical snap at the same time as his former team-mate and close friend. The Lyon midfielder took a selfie on board before take off, accompanied with a South Korean flag emoji.

The Brazilian playmaker has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle this summer after visiting Guimaraes in the north east on multiple occasions. Paqueta was even spotted having a kick about with Guimaraes after flying to Tyneside to watch the win over Arsenal at St. James' Park.

Chronicle Live understands a transfer is not imminent and sources close to the player himself played down the encounter last week. Lyon are willing to offload Paqueta if they receive a bid of £51m this summer.

Speaking last week, Eddie Howe touched on the impact Guimaraes will have when attracting players to Newcastle. "I'm aware of Bruno’s relationship, not just with Lucas Paqueta but many of his ex-players," he said. "Certainly, it helps to have players play at the very highest level because those relationships and opinions can be very valuable."
