Bruno Guimaraes opens up on penalty duties and his thoughts on Newcastle United's start to season

Bruno Guimaraes admits he "wanted" to take Newcastle United's penalty against Bournemouth - but happily stood aside to allow Alexander Isak get his first Toon goal at St James' Park.

The Brazil midfielder had the ball in his hands before then passing it over to Isak after the Sweden start asked for it back.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw with the Cherries, Bruno said: I wanted it, I trained but Isak trained as well It’s not that important for me but for him, it was his first goal here at St James’s Park so we deserved it and it’s no worries."

The South American has also reflected on the start to the season overall. It's just one win in seven matches for Newcastle with eight points on the board.

Bruno added: "We’ve drawn a lot but we need to win. We’ve played good games but the most important is to get the three points so we’re disappointed with our start to the season, we’ve started well but we need to win. It’s necessary to win. "

And when asked about the brilliant atmospheres served up so far this season, Bruno stated: "You cannot say anything about the crowd because the crowd are always behind us. It’s our fault, even if we didn’t play our best we still had many chances to score, in the first half two balls hit the post.

"We know it wasn’t good enough but we had chances to score, unfortunately, we didn’t get the three points. For sure, we need to play better. It’s clear in my opinion that we can do better.

"We need to create other options because teams are coming here now defending and trying to counter attack. We need to score as soon as possible and then the game will change, we had the opportunity but we didn’t score."
