Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has addressed the rumours linking him with a move to Manchester City, revealing details of a conversation with Pep Guardiola.
Despite speculation over the summer, the Brazilian playmaker reaffirmed his commitment to Newcastle, where he has become a key figure and leader.
Man City Rumours and Guardiola’s Praise
Guimaraes, who signed a new five-year contract with the Magpies last season, had a release clause reportedly set at £100 million ($128 million) valid until June 2024.
Man City were rumoured to be interested, yet no club, including the reigning Premier League champions, activated the clause.
In a recent interview with Globo Esporte, Guimaraes shared his thoughts on City’s interest and his conversation with Guardiola.
“Of course, having Manchester City’s suggestions shows that I am at a high level, but it was nothing more than suggestions,” Guimaraes said.
“I know that Guardiola likes my football. We spoke once after an interview. I praised his work, he praised my work, but it was nothing more than that.”

Being A Newcastle Idol and Leader
Guimaraes also reflected on his journey at Newcastle, emphasising his pride in his role as team captain. Since joining the club in January 2022, the midfielder has grown into a pivotal figure, both on and off the pitch.
“I believe that at my club I am an idol, and I have a lot of respect. I am the captain of Newcastle,” he noted. “If you had asked me three years ago, my biggest dream would have been to play in the Premier League.
“Playing, being an idol, being captain is something wonderful. I really like Newcastle.”
Guimaraes has been instrumental in Newcastle’s rise under Eddie Howe, helping the team secure Champions League qualification in his first full season at the club.
