Bruno Guimaraes new contract 'edges closer' after fresh Newcastle United talks as Real Madrid watch on

Bruno Guimaraes is edging closer to agreeing to a new long-term deal with Newcastle United. The Brazil international has been in negotiations with the Magpies throughout 2023 with the player's representatives Bertolucci Sports spotted on Tyneside in the last fortnight.

Bruno currently has three years left on his existing deal at St James' Park but is delighted with the way his move has gone after arriving from Lyon. Bruno's camp are relaxed but confident that a deal will soon be struck by Newcastle.

And while Real Madrid have been watching developments carefully - with a European giants long-term admirers of the midfield ace - Newcastle have told Bruno they want to build a team around players like him. On a personal level Bruno is delighted with life in the city with his young son and family settling in brilliantly in Newcastle. United hope that the fact a top star like Bruno is prepared to commit his future here will lead to other big deals.

Were Newcastle to agree the deal it would make Bruno one of the top earners at United moving into a long-term deal. Bruno is already one of the highest-paid stars at Newcastle and such a move would take the pay structure up slightly, potentially opening the door to other bigger earners arriving.

Eddie Howe made it clear on Friday at his Press conference that the club are not ready to add astronomical earners to his payroll yet after Newcastle were linked with Neymar Jnr and Ronaldo no less. But if Bruno's wages were pushing towards the £200,000 per week bracket some reports have suggested, it would open the door for some potential big-names to join Newcastle in future windows.

Speaking about his future earlier this year Bruno said: "I never doubted the project – I believe in it. "I always wanted to play in the Premier League and I am now just enjoying that.

“The ground loves me and I love them. I want to keep going. I want to be a legend here. "Real Madrid the best team in the world. It is nice. But it is just a conversation, it is nothing."
