Bruno Guimarães may have to be patient as Newcastle United midfield trio are undroppable

To get three wins on the bounce in the Premier League - no matter where you are in the Premier League table - is a brilliant achievement.

So we've done that now but what they have shown me is that they are finding different ways to win matches.

I thought the high tempo pressing game was exceptional against Everton but they showed a great battling spirit against Villa.

In fact, Villa were probably the better team but Newcastle showed that they could dig in and fight.

United had a great shape though and looked like they had a good spirit about them - all the things that you look for in a successful team.

Obviously, the good thing is the new signings are making an impact and in different ways.

Kieran Trippier from the moment he walked in has improved Newcastle and scored some vital goals.

Matt Targett was impressive against Everton and Dan Burn comes in and was outstanding against Villa, he showed what he's about in the left-sided centre-back position.

He has shown his quality but left-sided centre-backs are hard to come by so to find that type of quality.

Chris Wood is an important too, he's not one who looks for limelight, he's a player's player and does his work in the team.

Yes he will want a goal as all strikers do but the manager will be happy with his contributions.

His defensive work was superb and Dan was calm and composed on the ball, never wasting a pass on his debut.

That's all good but it is about confidence really.

And the players will always respond in a positive manner to better or new players coming in the building.

The best example of that is Bruno Guimarães who has come in the midfield area and consquently the other midfielders are suddenly in their best form for a long, long time.

At the Eddie Howe can't change the midfield of Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock and Joelinton.

It doesn't mean Bruno won't get in the team because he will be an outstanding player but what he's done is raise the standards in the team.

That's what happens when you buy top players.

That's the response - they play better and you win games.

The others who can't handle it will fall by the wayside anyway, but the lads who have the shirts at the minute are ready to fight for their place.

West Ham fixture would have been daunting not long ago

This game would have been feared by Newcastle not too long ago but now I think everybody will fancy United's chances of a result.

There's a great spirit around the place and fighting spirit and togetherness.

West Ham are still picking up points but they are not as seamless as they were about six weeks ago, and I watched them against Leicester in the 2-2 draw on Super Sunday and they only managed a point with a late equaliser.

So Newcastle should be full of confidence.

Don't get me wrong it still won't be easy but the chance to make it four wins on the bounce and six unbeaten in the Premier League would be a great return.

I can sense the players are confident and they believe in each other.

They came back from a goal down against Everton so all the things are there.

They are being asked questions and they are providing answers to them.

No wonder Chelsea and Man City are watching Declan Rice

We're talking about an outstanding player with Declan Rice - on the Premier League stage, Europa League and at the Euros and World Cup qualifiers with England he's shown he is more than capable.

He's come to the fore in the last 18 months, yes he was a good player before that to but now he's hitting the top, top level.

You can understand why the big clubs are now being mentioned with interest in Rice on a regular basis like Chelsea, Man City and Man United.

Declan seems to have everything really, he's played in the holding role, he has a physical presence and covers spaces.

He has great quality on the ball with passing and powerful running and he's scoring goals.

If David Moyes deploys him as a holding midfielder he'll do the job or if he is pushed to a box to box midfielder like a Steven Gerrard or Roy Keane in his younger days I think he can step up.

Every time I watch him you can't fail to be impressed by him.
